My first blog post! Welcome and thank you for coming to read and learn a little bit more about me in my own words.
I was born in early 1980 in beautiful Sarasota, Florida to my two lovely parents, Jerry and Sandy. My Dad served in the Navy (Vietnam) and then had a career in law enforcement (Hollywood PD & Florida Marine Patrol in Fort Myers). In fact, that's how we ended up here in Cape Coral from Marathon, Florida (The Keys!) - as my Dad worked his way up the ranks, we moved around quite a bit, so much in fact that I thought we owned a yellow Ryder moving truck. My Mom was an RN and worked at Cape Coral Hosptial for almost 30 years and was the head nurse in the Endoscopy department for quite some time. If you had a colonoscopy or choked on a piece of steak during Easter dinner, you probably met her. She loved being a Mom and was a very loving and kind woman to everyone.
We ended up here in Cape Coral in late 1982, after my Dad accepted a job promotion with the Florida Marine Patrol (now Florida Fish & Wildlife); the population was around 32,000. I knew how to drive a boat first before I knew anything about a car. My childhood was spent fishing and exploring the Cape Coral canal system with my big brother Matt. I grew up right off of Four Mile Cove and my Dad still lives in the home I grew up in today. I attended Caloosa Elementary and Middle Schools, went to Cape Coral high school my first two years, then finished my diploma at North Fort Myers high school. I went on to Edison Community College (now FSW) to study Entrepreneurship and Business Administration, then transferring to Florida Gulf Coast University to finish my Undergraduate degree in Communication.
I have worked many fields in my career! I am a student of life. I worked as a legal secretary in my early 20's, server/bartender at TGI Friday's, national sales director for a manufacturing company, a high school social science teacher, I had a brief stint in television (the 3am to noon shift is not for me), afternoon radio show producer, and prior to me becoming a full-time REALTOR, I ran a very successful survival swim school (ISR Cape Coral) where I taught little ones how to survive in the water in the event they fell in, as well as the fun stuff, like snorkeling, diving, strokes and beyond... chances are, you or someone you know has a child that was taught by yours truly :)
Being a REALTOR has brought me a lot of joy in the sense that I can just be myself. I have always been a People over Profit person, and continue to operate in that capacity, no matter what field I've worked in. Growing up here in Southwest Florida gives me a local advantage to assist buyers and sellers in ways they just won't experience with other agents.
My website, 239since813.com is an ode to the original area code I grew up here with in SWFL, 813. Yes, it was 813 here before it was 239, and prior to it being 239 it was 941. So to say I've seen a lot of change and growth over the years is an understatement.
